How I Conquered My Fear of Heights

Acrophobia is an excessive fear of heights and manifests as severe anxiety. A person could have an attack just walking and climbing up stairs or ladder and sometimes the fear is so great that the person cannot move which can endanger the (person) affected by this fear.

This is exactly what I suffer from. I did not have to consult a medical expert regarding this phobia to know because there were instances in the past that due to my fear of heights, I almost peed on my pants, I froze where I was and that I had to crawl in order for me to move. At my age, I have not ridden a Ferris Wheel because of this fear. There were instances where I threw up and cried, I was so scared.

A couple of years back, my family and I stayed in a vacation house in the Philippines and they happened to have an Adventure Park with ZipLine and Sky Bike. I did not have a plan to try either but the family challenged me. I tried Zipline in the past (not too high) so I thought I’d try the Sky Bike. Boy, it was a mistake because Zipline at least will happen quickly and you will be on the other end of the line in a short period of time. With Sky Bike, you will have to pedal, otherwise, you will be stuck in the middle.

The following photos will depict what emotion I was in during that time. I even came to the point of not wanting to finish it but the guide (in the photos with me) told me he cannot take over and that I really need to finish it. So I told myself, I have to finish it and conquer my fear (of heights). I said all kinds of prayers through songs and I kept pedaling with my eyes closed.

See photos below:

I was clearly manifesting nervous laughter here once I realized I was already in too deep in the challenge and there is no turning back.
Ready, set go! I forced a smile here but I could not breath anymore from anxiety.
I had to close my eyes here, kept pedaling and prayed so hard through songs so I can reach the finish line.
I did it! I conquered my fear of heights 🎊🎉🏆!

I still have the same fear of heights but I always remind myself of what I was able to achieve on this date and it encourages me that I can do anything, with courage and determination, I can.

What are you so afraid of that it gives you anxiety? What did you do to conquer it? Feel free to share it with me, I’d love to hear it 😊.

It’s great that you were able to overcome your fear. I’m happy for you. That’s something I tried long time ago but failed. I don’t have a plan in trying it again soon. Not yet. lol
